I would like to draw attention to two elements that are described within music.
The first is the whole chordal structure of a piece. It is termed HARMONY and it is distinguished from the MELODY, better termed its RHYTHM.
Making this HARMONY clearer we can say that it is the "fitting together of the parts so as to form a connected whole." It is a normal and satisfying state of completeness and order in the relation of apparent parts to each other.
HARMONY
I would now like to equate that HARMONY within the natural operation of the MOTHER PRINCIPLE, which in Chinese is named SHEN.
When the Harmony of this Mother Principle is violated in a manner that is not beneficial for natural and complete survival then homeostasis operates in order to discover the cause of the DIS-HARMONY and a correlated signal accompanies it within consciousness.
In normal and natural conditions where no Identity Virus or its components are active then automatic correction is initiated and correct and natural survival paradigms are reactivated. There is no consciousness of this set of right-hemisphere corrections and adjustments.
The Mother Principle is concerned with internal Shen, but since survival is not just an internal event there is a signal that in Non-Viral circumstances the Mother Principle can detect. That signal lets the Mother Principle detect that Natural Survival is in one way or another being violated.
There is a conscious correlate of that signal and it is called GLADNESS.
We define that Gladness as an experience that is initiated when others are Glad. In other words, it is completely other-directed. That Gladness is not an on-off event, for the Gladness of others is to be maintained within a certain range which is particular to each apparent individual.
That Gladness depends upon external feedback and, of course, it too is related to correct levels of the external survival of One's true and natural survival functioning.
In other words, if others, that is Adults and Children, are behaving in a manner that brings their correct and naural survival operation free of Identity which is accompanied by their Gladness, then your system responds with Gladness.
Your Gladness, you can see, depends upon the Gladness of others.
We repeat, it is the "fitting together of the parts so as to form a connected whole" between all human creatures together with correct behaviour which is beneficial to all living creatures and the environment upon which survival depends.
You can quite easily see that the Human Virus is counterproductive and cannot produce HARMONY.
RHYTHM
Making this RHYTHM clearer we can say that it is the "regular re-occurence" of the Natural Patterns of Correct Survival. It is a normal and satisfying state of the MASCULINE PRINCIPLE, HUN. The natural rhythm is constant when the Masculine Principle is generating ZEAL, REXIN, in its inter-communication with the Cognitive process of the human system which we term PO.
This Rexin generates conscious experiences of Awe, Rapture, Bliss and Well-being.
We can term the homeostatic system relative to Rhythm as the natural BALANCE of the system. It is here that the scales of balance is measured with Zeal or Rexin upon one dish of the balance and impediments to that balance, namely Identity Interference, upon the other.
Conscious correlates of this imbalance are generated when Compassion, Benevolent Affect and Equanimity fall below the range of acceptance.
Perhaps you can now finally see why the activities which generate the experiencs of Gladness, Compassion, Benevolent Affect and Equanimity play such an important part in the development of correct and natural Buddha Dharma.
THE BAD NEWS
The bad news for many is the fact that you cannot cognitively initiate a correction of this natural Harmony or Balance. Only natural homeostasis can accomplish that.
Religions, social systems and education, for the benefit of Social, not natural, Balance and Harmony promote a cognitive Compassion, Love and also form of Social Justice, all dominated by Identity. But while this indeed can make society run smoother, it at best an external masking of what should be natural and correct.
THE GOOD NEWS
Homeostasis has two ways of restoring the correct and natural operation of the human creature.
The first is by eliciting an anti-virus.

The second is by eliciting two natural operations which in Dharma Psychology we call Awareness and Mindfulness.

So having made it clear that you can do nothing with regard to generating homeostasis, it should be obvious that the Identity complex is beyond the control or regulation of homeostasis.
When homeostasis sends its signal that "something is wrong here," it arouses the Identities of Confusion, Acquisition and Aversion.
Remember that ther are no real Identities and that they are merely personifications of Visceral, Emotional, Mental and Fixation impulses stored in memory that are elicited by either external irritation or internal irritation of spontaneous thought.
It is here that Homeostasis initiates the anti-virus action by generating an auto-destruct signal. That auto-destruct signal operates upon the Mental Super-Ego that has constructed a world of "shoulds."
It has an inherent Identity Prajna which when provoked by natural homeostasis declares that Identity is "illusion" and "should not" exist independent of the Truth "illusion."
There is then initiated a search for Truth and an active set of impulses to "refrain" from Visceral and Emotionally chained attitudes, intentions and responses and to refrain from fixation upon the past and future.
There is normally sufficient energy impetus within this series of events that generates an actual auto-destruction of the Super-Ego symptoms themselves.
WHEN IS HOMEOSTATIC REACTION SUFFICIENTLY STRONG TO BE ACTIVATED?
There are four conditions which activate an homeostatic reaction that only is effective during the presence of the evoking events and dissolves when the irritating events are reduced in intensity.
1. The illusory presence of intolerable Suffering, which lasts only until Suffering becomes tolerable and False Happiness is compensatory.
2. The illusory presence of an unsatisfactory Life, which lasts until Identity conditions of a viable "nest" is restored.
3. The illusiory presence of the sense that Awakening is necessary, which lasts until there is an equally illusory belief that self-awareness is attained or present.
4. The illusiory presence of intolerable solitude and persecution, which lasts until there is some form of divine solace.
There is one condition which evokes constancy upon the path of Liberation.
It is the illusory presence of knowing that Truth is not known, yet can be known.
We can call that then the Homeostatic Search for Truth and since that search, if it is to be successful, depends apon learning, then the external source of that learning becomes an important factor.
Too often that external force is selected on the basis of Identity reaction and thus becomes ineffective and leads to a return to Samsaric staining.
Everything at this point will have depended upon the activity of Homeostasis, external events and Identity presence. The question is, when does the Random Homeostatic effect come into operation?
The answer is that it arises when learning ensues with the understanding that there is a POSSIBILITY that a combination of the new conditioning of "refraining"
is linked with the FREE RESPONSES of trying what is recommended by learning without any previous experiences that they may be effective.
This means ABANDONING and the generation of a certain energy in establishing the elusive and difficult concept that NOTHING IS IMPORTANT that the system has hitherto accepted as IMPORTANT.
One begins with the premise that this is possibly true and with correct and dilligent application this develops greater strength as PROBABILITY and then CERTAINTY.
Then beyond mental CERTAINTY there arises the "letting go" ot that last conceptualization of certainty and SURRENDER to the Natural system of Dharma.
LEARNING
Learning with levels of certainty that arise automatically means that there can be no learning that is directed by oneself. One cannot learn correctly if there is either a target for learning or a learner present. Learning has to take place on the basis of incoming data which is naturally evaluated without Identity presence. That means that one cannot assume the role of being one's own teacher until the cognitive self has been vanquished.
This is what Buddha called free critical enquiry. It means let learning be wherever it arises and trust in the system itself that is pure Dharma to select what is appropriate. That means that learning is open to any event, the flight of a bee, the color of a flower, the sound of raindrops, the snort of a pig, the observung of human creatures, the words and expression tendered from a seer or idiot.
The syetem itself will generate the direction of awareness and attention. But the learning to be effective occurs even in the "fall of a sparrow."
Naturally the Identity must be released for this to take place, that is why there are the two important factors:

When the first arises the second falls into place.
