2.  THE SECRET GATE TO RINZAI GONG-ANS (KOANS)

Bearing in mind the four elements of advice of Huangbo which must have been passed on to Rinzai, keeping in mind that one must dissolve the reality of sensations and discriminations which have as their fount Duality and the "I", "me" and "mine" of Identity, let us proceed with the gong-ans (koans).

The secret Gate to Rinzai is not through the gong-ans (koans) themselves, but through correctly addressing the questions with two factors pressing within the correctly directed "mind sitting" contemplation and the correct understanding and direction of the teacher.

        The first factor is the one word "What?"

The second factor is the correct application of  two-fold Emptiness.

                                               ONE WORD "WHAT?"
