7. THE JHANAS AND SUPRAMUNDANE CONTEMPLATION

THE JHANAS AND SUPRA-MUNDANE CONTEMPLATIONS

It must be noted that the Jhana experiences are deep penetrations into important Cognitive Experiences which are free from impediments and are quite different than the Supra-mundane Contemplations.

It is these Cognitive Direct Experiences which give an understanding of all the essential elements of Dharma without which advanced contemplation is exceedingly difficult.

In Chan we use Contemplation alternatives to develop this essential understanding.

The Supra-mundane Contemplations use the four formless Jhanas as a base for reaching profoundly into unconscious experiences.
