2. GENERATING FAVOURABLE CONDITIONS FOR A NEW BIRTH AS AN ADULT

A copy of this painting was the centerpiece on the wall of my grandfather's house and represents interestingly the complex interaction of what is considered just and unjust, correct and incorrect as well as good and bad.

War is not good for children or animals, that is certain. But are there just wars?

Is it correct even to paint anything black or white?

I remember a poem that I learned in English class at Plympton that balanced the chauvinism of this view of the enemy, the French.

It was a marvelous poem by Browning concerning Wellington's enemy Napoleon.

So there is really no black or white and that was an early lesson.

But in the human adult, behaviour is rife with complex decision-making based upon cognition, memory and conditioned opinion that shows up without gray tints. That is his internal Kingdom of Mara and with his intellect-controlled mind, Mara's three daughters, confusion, greed and aversion, pull the strings of behaviour. Yet lurking there behind, concealed from consciousness, is something more noble.

The question then is, as we are victims of Mara and his daughters and have never enjoyed the fruits of a favourable birth, can we now from twenty to eighty, and particularly around forty when the stress and tension of the world makes us ask questions, generate a NEW FAVORABLE REBIRTH for ourselves?

The answer is that we can.

In this web, we examine the precise method.
