4. CONCLUSION: THE NATURAL SPONTANEOUS FRUITS

If we review now the Theravadin Path leading to the experience of the Pure Mind with that of Chan, we find that although the path is different it touches the same points along the way and in the last stages before the attainment there is logical equivalence.

The Awakening of Gotama Buddha then is not different in its essential Nirvanic fruit from that of anyone who with diligence travels the Dharma path and attains liberation by Chan Contemplation.

THE FRUITS

We saw that the liberation experience of both the Supramundane Path and the Chan Path have, previous to the Nirvanic fruit, their own important fruit, the experiences of the Sublime States. But neither of these fruits are the same form of experience as the Sublime State Fruits of Cognition.

They are not seen directly, but by way of discernment, therefore memory and cognition intercede. Nevertheless, they are clearly more primitive in nature and therefore esssentailly more pure.

The fruits of Nirvana, the Uncarved Wood, the Pure Mind, are SUBLIMINAL RAW EXPERIENCES that are the basic language of the system and the only language of survival operation. On the other hand, the language of the Life Force expression is all cognitive and dressed in WORDS AND PHRASES which are available to consciousness.

Starting with the Life Force, Yuan qi, 元氣, we reach that point where the expression is transformed into behaviour. The return part of the cycle is used with meditation techniques as the focus for rejuvenation of the natural system to PURE MIND SHEN and the ultimate experience of the Awakening.

It should be very evident that there is a frequent appearance of the experiences of True Benevolent Affect (metta),  Gladness (mudita), Compassion (karuna) and Equanimity (upekkha).

This revitalization series includes the following elements:

                  * SHEN, 心神 (right-hemisphere feminine principle Pure Mind), To Do.

       * Yuan Shen, 元神, the transforming force.

       * HUN, 魂 (left-hemisphere masculine principle), Shen Expression Doing.

       * Rexin, 热心, the transforming Zeal.
