GROWTH, FREEDOM and EQUALITY
The important factor, which is the cement for the UNION, in all cases is COMMON NATURAL GROWTH. This means, that for any growing pair, if there is Natural development, there will CERTAINLY be a continuing distance built between the members of that INTERACTION and the MUNDANE corrupt world, of which man is a part at the moment. That is because the MUNDANE world is in conflict with all that is natural.
We must, of course, understand what COMMON NATURAL GROWTH is. It is moving along a common NATURAL PATH, with true simple comfort; uncomplicated and effective security; IDENTITY-free belonging in personal interactions and with nature; mutual understanding, learning and teaching; mutual sharing and a UNITY with each other. This development becomes a spiritual experience which naturally promotes UNITY with the rest of NATURE. What is the root of this growth? Growth rests with factors which may seem surprising on first glance. These factors are “play” and “meditation”. It is within these processes that CURIOSITY and DISCOVERY are allowed full EXPRESSION and they result in GROWTH and UNDERSTANDING about oneself, one’s interactions, and nature.
An essential ingredient of this CURIOSITY and DISCOVERY is FREEDOM. Most people do not understand the concept of FREEDOM within an INTIMATE RELATIONSHIP at all. This is not really surprising, because few have ever been free in their lives from the bonds of society. It is a common mistake to believe that one must be alone to be free. Indeed, if a partnership is cemented with the BONDS of IDENTITY then there can be no FREEDOM. If an INTERACTION is cemented by mutual UNDERSTANDING, accompanied by TRUE LOVE, then there is complete PSYCHOLOGICAL FREEDOM. Furthermore, within the framework of a UNION, which is honest both emotionally and practically, there is PHYSICAL FREEDOM.
What is the commitment to an INTIMATE RELATIONSHIP? It is to be BENEVOLENT and UNDERSTANDING. It is to act in concert for the common GROWTH of UNDERSTANDING. It is to SUPPORT and TEACH. It is to CARE and be as ONE, and, as we have said, it is to be CURIOUS and DISCOVERING the world, with all its apparent truth and contradictions. Is then only one member of an INTIMATE RELATIONSHIP uniquely prepared to be CURIOUS? Is only one member uniquely prepared to be the one who DISCOVERS? Of course not. Therefore an INTIMATE RELATIONSHIP must be free of rules which inhibit NATURAL EXPRESSION. This is FREEDOM. This does not mean that the IDENTITIES should be given free license to satiate their DEMANDS. With FREEDOM there comes a responsibility to one’s partner or partners, to permit NATURAL FREEDOM, and help in the elimination of all that is unnatural.
This integration of ideas with a COMMON sense of FREEDOM which has no fear of chains within the INTERACTION brings a NATURAL EQUALITY. If the individual IDENTITIES are present, or if there is a MOULDED single IDENTITY present, then there can be no EQUALITY. EQUALITY only comes when there is an UNDERSTANDING of the PHYSICAL and PSYCHOLOGICAL DIFFERENCES and a full comprehension of the WORTHINESS of ONESELF and one’s PARTNER.
There must exist an ANARCHY to the extent that both partners in any INTERACTION must recognize the qualities and limitations of both themselves and their partner, using those qualities to advantage, without any concept of SUPERIORITY or INFERIORITY. Each should give way to the knowledge and abilities of the other, without measuring the contribution, the value of the contribution, or feeling as if one is overshadowed by the greater contribution of the other. You use both your left and right hands, do you not? Is one then INFERIOR to the other? If you are left-handed, do you value your right hand less?
