MINDFULNESS

We must consider that there are three aspects to MINDFULNESS.

First there is PURE MINDFULNESS which has no object and is a state which communicates with the pure mind merely to confirm its viability and continued operation... This is not unlike the operation of Pure Sense Awareness.

Normally mindfulness operating upon an object, that can be internal or apparently external, momentarily capturing the object, continuing with a set of (mind-moments) which are first applied and then sustained. This is the mundane but essentially useful mindfulness of all living creatures.

Finally there is a mindfulness that is also directed, applied and sustained without any associations or thoughts which act to distract absolute mindfulness upon a task or an object. The four foundations of mindfulness are examples of this third aspect of Mindfulness.
