7. THE MUDDLED INDISCRIMINATE FOOL

Drugpa Kunley asked, "Unable to regulate life according to the seasons and the time of the day, who are you but a muddled, indiscriminate fool?"

But what did he mean by declaring this? He meant that really you have no idea at all what life is all about. It is not about being successful in the pursuit of happiness, by the accumulation of wealth, prestige, fame or power. It is not being respected for cognitive intelligence.

When reaching forty most people begin to realize that something is wrong in their lives. They look at their past and ask, "what have I accomplished?". Even their Identity is disillusioned. They look to the future and all that they see is more of the same.

Is there something else available? Many flit about like a moth around a flame searching for the mysterious transcendental which does not exist.

They may find the Dharma path, but what their identity wants is to continue with whatever happiness they have found and at the same time fly upon clouds of Cosmic Consciousness. They want one foot is stained Samsara and the other in a pseudo Valhalla.

There is, of course, no Valhalla. There is only an understanding of the Life Force beyond conscious intellect.

They do not realize that they cannot have a foot in stained Samsara and the other in a world beyond confusion, acquisitiveness  and aversion.

What they do not understand is that they can have BOTH feet in BOTH worlds.

This can only occur when they understand the availability of a Samsara that is not stained by their mind. They must know "the seasons and the time of the day." They must know at a level more profound than the conscious mind what the Two Truths are and how to dwell within them.
